Check out the freezer at your pet store, you should be able to buy frozen brine shrimp, and freeze dried tubiflex worms. Your betta will love both and the varied diet will be good for him. The best thing you can do for your betta is never feed too much (always leave him a bit hungry), and change half of his water every week. Poor water quality (usually caused by over feeding) is the biggest cause of shortened life spans of bettas.

My betta is very picky about what he eats. His favorite is just regular ole betta pellets but sometimes I put blood worms in there and baby shrimp although he dosent seem to eat either :p He also seems to like tropical flakes. I know its very popular to put thos live plants in there tank if ur usin a vase which i dont I cant keep the plant alive BUT I belive they eat those plants as well and love to hide in them.
I tried giving my betta a live worm once..dont recommend that! I read somewhere that they love to kill there own food so I also put a fly in there and it was alive the betta attacked it so maybe he liked that. I dont do that anymore though.
Something else Id like to tell you, if at all possible avoid those little small betta bowls.. there so cramped up in there. From experience with many bettas ive noticed that they like larger tanks (as with most fish) they also love plants..they like to hide in them. It makes them feel safe and cozy. Thats how you like your home right?
Out of all the food out there I guess id recommend feeding him betta pellets but for his pleasure id also have a variety of things around and give him a lil something different every now and then. Im not a fish but Id say it gets pretty old eating the same ole stuff all the time hehe. Have fun with him, you have chosen a VERY pretty and interesting companion!
sorry thats so long lol.

While some bettas are picky eaters pellets, or flakes will work fine. Provided that they are for carnivores. Bettas need a food that is mostly worm/shrimp/fish. The other important thing is to not over feed. A betta will happy eat himself to death. As alway read betta talk but remember Faith's bettas are spoil from birth when it comes to food.

All bettas have their own personality. What may be tasty to one betta could be crap for another. If he is having flakes, fine enough. You can try tetra bits. Feed only once a day, very little. You can even skip a day or two. Fish can't control their eating habits. They will act hungry all the time, so we have to control it for them.

Also you might consider setting up a little natural planted tank for him. Here are a couple of pages on that
