I am 5 weeks pregnant and started cramping horribly when I urinated this morning. I think I have a urinary tract infection and it hurts! Being that it is Sunday, I will have to go to the emergency room. Should I go or should I just go get some cranberry juice and try to get into the dr office tomorrow? Could this cause miscarriage? Thanks for suggestions!! I am terrified.

I don't think it causes a miscarriage. If you're still hurting really bad I would go to the ER. If it slows down or stops, I would wait until tomorrow and call the dr first thing in the morning and go for the cranberry juice and lots of water. Good luck!! Hope everything turns out alright.

an UTI left untreated can cause miscarriage. i dont think waiting until tomorrow will put u and the unborn baby at risk though and that sounds like what you have. i'd start drinking lots of water and cranberry juice & call the dr tomorrow. im 7 weeks and just finishing up my antibiotics for my UTI, so im past the cramping but it does hurt. :(

dont be scared. it's highly unlikely it's a miscarriage. you'd be bleeding and cramping both would be equally horrible. it'd start off as spotting and an occasional cramp and progressively get more intense. i'm pretty certain u just have an UTI. common during pregnancy. dont worry.

but definitely call your doc first thing in the AM!

UTIs are symptomized by stinging/burning during urination, lower stomach pain, sometimes lower back pain, and a frequent need to urinate. If you have these symptoms, relax just a bit. Waiting one day to see the doctor probably won't harm your baby. Drink some cranberry juice, and lots of water, and if you are still feeling pain in the morning, call the doctor first thing. Diagnosis for a bladder infection is as simple as peeing in a cup, and treatment is a few days of antibiotics.

Good luck!

Never heard of it causing a misscarriage. I would get cranberry juice, but make sure it is the 100% natural, without added sugar. There's a big difference between the 2 types (they're all together in the same display area) the added sugar in the juice will actually aggrevate your bladder( my sister has chronic ones so I know a lot about them). I'm not sure how much vitamin C you can take when your pregnant, but my sister does 10,000 milligrams ( approx 10 times the normal dose) for 2-3 days when she starts to get them. Her doctor has her do this & it knocks them out.

I was told by a nurse when I was 12 weeks preg. and had a UTI that they can cause miscarriage and early labor. So, I would go to the ER.

Cramping while pregnant is NOT a good sign if it's as painful to you as it sounds. Go to Emergency. Better to be safe than sorry. What happens if you wait and something happens to your baby?
