a skeletal muscle originates and inserts via tendons attached to the muscle and fixed to bones. the elbow, for example is articulated (moved) by muscles in the upper arm. the muscle which adducts (or closes) the elbow joint originates in the humerus(the upper arm bone) and inserts in the ulna (the inner forearm bone when your hand is flat on a table in front of you). the muscle contracts and pulls the elbow closed by lifting the ulna via the insertion of the tendon which is attached to the lower end of the skeletal muscle (bicep in this case)

Origin- Where Muscle is attached to a stationary bone.
insertion- Area where the muscle is attached to a bone that moves.
