All the responders have correctly given the full name of Babasaheb(the last one has given the sirname as Ambavadekar' insteaed of Ambedkar which may be a spelling mistake. My reason for joining the bandwagon is not to add anything new. I onl wish to draw attention to one fact and clarify the long-hele belief that Babasaheb hated the uppercastes. You will see that one resonder has given his surname as Jamkar whereas all the others have given it as Ambedkar. And thereby hangs a tale which uplifts our spirits. This sirname Ambedkar was the surname of the primary school teacher of Babasaheb. He was a Brahmin and of course according to the prejuices then prevailing he made Babasabeb sit away from other students and if it the underling committed some mistake needng punishment(according to the teacher and their rules were quite strict at the time) he would thrown something and strike Babasabeb with it for the lapse.But, and that but is more important he taught Babasaheb and also other students so lovingly and sincerely which kept his interest alive in education. As a mark of gratutude Babasaeb changed his surname to Ambedkar.They say that the retired old man, when he learnt it, he cried like a child and slapped himself for all the cruel punishment heaped by him upon the poor boy who quietly sat in a corner uncomplainingly.When the upper caste people(to which I belong) abuse him i tell them this tale. They try to discount it but become silent.
