NC-17 and X rated are used for pornography movies and really violent movies.

Most hollywood movies fall under the category G, PG, PG-13, and R. General with PG-13 a under 13 can get into the movie with a parent. An R rated movie a person under 17 can get into the movie as long as someone who is 17 or older pays for the ticket.

NC-17 means if you are under 17 you can't get in what so ever. Hollywood tends to make movies so that they can have a larger target audience. Teenagers age 14-17 is an audience they don't want to ignore.

Because when a movie is rated NC-17 people might not go & see it as much as they would when it`s R rated .

its still used to rate movies, but no movie wants to get it, so they always tone the movie down in order to get an r or what have you instead, cuz a NC-17 is like instant failure in the eyes of movie makers, so its still a rateing, it just barely gets put on a movie
