Johnny Ray was a very good singer with a very good voice I have recordings of his live performances I should think he could sing any thing today has good has anyone today .But I dout if many to day could sing his songs has well has he could he was American he was done for Homo advances in a public toilet I think that ruined his career in those days , if it was the same to day there would.nt be many singers left would there there was crappy singers in those days but there is even more to day do you think johnny ray would get through the x factor of course he would easy why do most singers today oversing the words of a song eg up and down the scale on one word adding about 10 notes for a short word songs are supposed to be stories not ruined by a singer trilling all the songs all the time so boring all sound the same at least Johnny ray got on with the song didn't trill all the time

I was lucky enough to see Johnny Ray at the Regal cinema in Hull in 1956.I sat on the front row and I borrowed the money from my dad...it cost 15 shillings.....75p in today's money.
Also on the bill were The Platters....fantastic!!
Johnny Ray was the first "heart throb " who had girls screaming for him. He was a big star in those days. He died a few years ago. I can understand you thinking his music is crap but remember , times have changed since those early days.
