I guess when people say bharat they mean their country and assume India. Can you imagine white people trying to say bharat? They'd say it like parat.

People near river Sindhu were called so but Persians pronounced it as Hindu.Hence Hindustan. The river Sindhu was called Indu---Inde by Europeans. And India was derived from it.Bharat is named after king Bharat and the country was called Bharartbarsha.Due to British rule name India gained ground. In all fairness India should be called Bharat.

India is the 'ia' suffix denoting a country (as in Khaldia, Bavaria,Russia)attached to Hind(which became Ind in the English pronouciation. It was perhaps in the records of the British that the country is so referred to for the first time. The name was adopted generally eg.Indian National Congess etc.It means the country of the Hind. The word has a Persian origin and denoted the people staying across the river Singhu. In Persian 's' becomes 'h' and Sind became Hind. In Persian language the land of the seven rivers -Saptasindhu--is referred as HaptaHindu' Bharat is the name of the Indian peninsula and is derived from the name of a Hindu king Bharat. While this name occurs in ancient texts yet another name Jambudweep occurs in Sanskrit chants, especially sung during religious ceremonies so Jambudweep(The Jambu Peninsula) is the ancient name of this country. This name is still invoked in religious ceremonies.

literary both words are the names of our beloved country. Bharat is the Name given after the brave king Bharat. India is the name given by English people. Now a days it is considered that India is the name given by the reach and Bharat is the name given by the poor. and those who are staying in India are the reach. and those who are staying in Bharat are the poor.

The name India /'ɪndiə/ is derived from Indus, which is derived from the Old Persian word Hindu, from Sanskrit Sindhu, the historic local appellation for the Indus River.
The Constitution of India and common usage recognise Bharat (/bʱaːrət̪/), as an official name; India is also recognized with equal status.
A third name, Hindustan (/ɦɪn̪d̪ʊst̪aːn/) (Persian: Land of the Hindus) has been used since the twelfth century, although its contemporary use is unevenly applied.

I dont know why we r so much influnsed with english, why we like english names .. ?
do we think that those who speak english and act english r counted in developed or rich countries ?
if so then what about China, Japan, france, russia, germany etc. R they not developed and do u think they r so much influnsed with english as we r ?
All these developed countries r so much close to there culture, language, and they feel proud about it.
Their political leaders, actors, all speak in their own language, but indian actors and politions .. according to them, speaking english means they r high society ppl, highly qualified and very cultured and wellmannered ppl. It has became a status symbol for them, as if they r doing something great and not just that but they also proudly give excuses that they cant speak Hindi or they dont know hindi.
Even in our (semi) patriotic songs we use INDIA instead of Bharat. .. its really rediculs ..I think its an insulting of our culture or language and aboveall our country.
why r we so much rely on english cant we grow or develop without english ?
if no then how china, japan have developed there technology there sites and softwares in their own language... ?
why we feel shame to speak hindi. i just cant understand the ill-mentality of our so called highly educated indians.
Its in nature of every human to make a different identity of self. And i think our Language is our identity.
