When I bought a very big one they sold a floor stand to hold it open while you were looking through it. When I went to a regular size one it just stayed on the shelf. Now I look words up on the computer and that doesn't need a book to be anywhere.

"site" is the word you want, it implies location. "sight" is a visual.
