Why is it that baseball players have to testify to Congress? The last time i checked, the MLB wasn't on the same level as the FBI. Now, i'm not saying that steroids should be legal, i am just saying that Bud Selig should be the person deciding what to do about steroids and not Congress.

I agree that steroid use is a negative influence on children, however wouldn't a lifetime ban/stripping of records of a player be more effective in keeping kids away from steroid use than just having the same player appear on TV being badgered by old men in suits?

Steroids are illegal in the U.S. without a doctor's prescription. They fall into the same class as cocaine, barbituates, and heroin, as far as scheduled drugs and leaglity purposes are concerned.

Two words:

Sherman Act.

Major League Baseball is a fully functional monopoly. Under the Sherman Act, monopolies are ILLEGAL. The U.S. Government will go out of its way to bust up the monopoly. In MLB's case, Congress has taken the opposite path. Congress has gone out of its way to protect Major League Baseball from the Sherman Act and its enforcement.

This is not a matter of telling a total stranger to "mind its own business". MLB owes its current existence to Congress, and therefore answers to it.

Also, because MLB is a national business, Congress, which is vested with the power to regulate interstate commerce, is going to be able to investigate if it wants to.

Actally thats the problem. Bud isn't deciding and hasn't made decided without being forced to. Congress in involved because it is an issue that effects us all. Teenage athletes see their "idols" and if they are allowed to use steroids to become better, they will think its fine for them too.

Drug use by players are a negative influence on the youth of our nation.

Any player that holds a record, if found to have been a user or is a user should be stripped of his title and record. They are cheaters!

The ball players of the past didn't enhance the really played and preformed. That is one of the reasons I have lost interest in the game.

In a ideal international, (i'm one hundred% liberal through ways) anybody might want to turn their earnings to the authorities so as that the authorities splits it both. the individuals who paintings and the individuals who do not paintings will all get free funds from the authorities as quickly because that's chop up both between all electorate. that's no longer ideal, so enable me say what might want to correctly be performed realistically. Tax each and every of the individuals in accordance to how a lot funds they make. the prosperous could pay 50% taxes on their earnings. the middle earnings could pay 25% taxes of the earnings, and the undesirable could pay little to no taxes. The taxes should be used to construct large faculties, furnish free healthcare, and close DOWN ALL PRISONS. police officials should be paid low salaries, because with large faculties and free funds from the authorities for poors, their amenities could no longer be needed a lot.

Steroids are illegal. The last time I looked at the constitution, it stated the legislative branch made laws not the commissioners of any sports league. Check out the facts and then check out your logic and reasoning.

I don't think the government should get involved. This is a matter for the league executives to handle. The Government can't fix anything, look around.
