I don't know about other women, but as soon as I noticed something wasn't "right" with me, I went to my ob/gyn who then prescribed zoloft. I had severe postpardum depression. I haven't taken it in nearly a year but it helped a lot.

excuse me for not knowing, but was is NHS exactly?

Not everyone is that self aware, some think it'll pass, and others may simply be afraid that they'll have the child taken away if they admit they are feeling depressed or over whelmed.

And then you have those who religious or cultural beliefs prevent them from seeking outside help.

You're right though it is a bit of a shame that the mental health of a new mom isn't as important as it should be.

Not all baby blues need to be treated. Mine went away within 3 weeks. As long as you aren't having thought of hurting yourself or the baby, and by your 6 weeks checkup the blues are gone, then you are fine.
