The book The Ugly American was about Americans being demanding and pushy and exploitative and all that. You're proud of that? Or do you mean "ugly" in the more physical sense, of being someone who would not be considered for a modeling job, except perhaps in mockery. What's to be proud of there? Or, knowing you are ugly, you are proud to be an American? OK; I'll buy that one if necessary.
But calling yourself ugly must be done advisedly. I sometimes refer to myself as a fat, ugly old witch, but what I really mean is I admit I'm fat, and I know most people think fat is ugly regardless, so I'll face that fact. Old is relative; I'm 59 1/2, and eligible for retirement. And I am a witch by religious persuasion, so there's no self put-down in that.

You're only proud of it because you have money. Picture yourself with little money and you would have to work for a living like a slave. Then you would see the TRUE meaning of life in America.
