A variety of frozen, freeze dried and prepared (flakes or pellets) is the key to good health. I have never bought flakes specifically made for bettas as mine live in community tanks. They eat whatever is in the tanks.

Some betta are pickey and won't initially eat flakes. (Most likley as they were feed something different as they grew up.) The 2 important thing are to: Feed a food that has a primary ingredent of worms/shrimp/fish. Not to over feed as once your betta decides to eat a given he'll in most cases happily eat him self to death. See link for details. (Not that Faith betta are spoiled for birth when it comes to food.)

Yes, just make sure that the % of protein is high. Bettas (pronounced bet-tah, not bay-tah) are carnivores and need 45-50% protein in their flakes.
Flakes are better for them than pellets, the flakes are more easily digested.

Yes some of them will eat flakes, mine are picky eaters though and they will only eat the freeze dried worms.
