Bush and Cheney are running the show with Carl Rove. The Congress has given Bush a free ride. After all ,when anyone ever gave a passing thought to standing up to Bush, all he had to do was say the words "unpatriotic if you don't go along with me."Haven't you ever noticed in his speeches he never misses the chance to criticize any one who questions his policy?

The checks and balances are among the Executive (folks you mention), Legislative (Congress) and the Judiciary (SUpreme court). Everything is in place however we don't always like those that are elected. If you want your voice heard just vote. MId-terms are in November, next presidential election in 2 years.

Well the people you mentioned are all Executive Branch.
The SCOTUS is still there and so is the Congress. WOW, checks and balances still there. For a minute I thought they had gone away.
