check the timing. if its ok, try lowering the idle speed.

To Begin with,, The reason for dieseling.. 1. You must have ignition to ignite the fuel ... 2. You must have fuel...When you turn off the ignition you no longer have Ignition (spark) ... What you have is Carbon build up..it remains red hot and ignites the fuel.. Also your carb could be bleeding down possibly a float or needle valve..They sell a carbon remover at most marine service centers.. also make sure your engine isn't running too HOT, this could also cause this... Fuel injected or carb the throttle cable might not be letting the engine idle down enough 550 to 700 rpm should be idle speed. Sometime there is s grease zerk that need lubrication or new throtle cable time.
