Front porch is covered and there are 4 columns supporting tie roof of the porch. One is badly deteriorating and all four need to be replaced. I can do the work, but don't know where to find new columns.

Home Depot does have some columns - but some of the restoration places have better ones - www.rensup.com is the place I use for alot of restoration supplies.

You could use 6x6 presure treated columns and then cover them with some of the beautiful vinyl or aluminum columns available now. They look like the original, but no more worries!

For a 1901 home you will not be able to find columns at a "Home Store", they will most likely have to be custom made. Call a local planning mill or custom woodworkers shop, they'll be able to direct you to some one to make them for you. They will be expensive.

If you want to make it look like it did before you will need to find some one that works with wood and see if they can or will make the new pillars to match the old ones. They can work the wood in a lathe and make them a good replicate of the originals. Find some one that is familiar with old ways of doing things. I wish you luck.
