I am replacing a slate roof on a brick built shed which has a chimney stack right through the middle, I want to felt and batten it first but am unsure how to felt around the chimney, can anyone help?

You need to use galvanized metal "step" flashing along the sides and flash the top(uphill side) under the shingles and the bottom (downhill side) over the shingles. This will involve removing some of the mortar joints in the brick chimney sliding the flashing in and the either using sealant or new mortar after sliding the flashing in. This flashing will go in after the felt and before the slate shingles. also a layer of self stick ice and water shield is a good extra piece of insurance if you are in a severe climate. An experienced mason or roofer would be a big big help in doing this.
