We live in a private residential area where our garden backs onto a park walkway. Have had problems with hooligan teenagers breaking glass in our greenhouse for the past two summers. (Have replaced glass with plastic panes) BUT now they are throwing stones/soil/eggs at the front windows. Absolute nightmare - been in touch with the local council and police have been called out many times but they can't do anything unless they catch them throwing! Absolutely pathetic as when we called the police last night the youths were actually at the front of the house and they ask the teenagers "not to run away". Police said to go out to them and ask them nicely not to do it. (What a joke) Am at my wit's end as to what to do next. (Know what I would like to do but they would probably have me in court.) Sensible answers please.

Thanks so much for your replies. We don't know these kids so can't get in touch with parents. My husband tooks photos of these lads but one of them phoned the police from his mobile phone and the police called at our home within an hour saying that we couldn't take photos of the lads without their permission! Can someone tell me why you can't take photos with an ordinary camera, yet you can use CCTV.
We have lived in this upmarket development for 20 years with no trouble until last summer. There is no way we would move, as someone has suggested. Why should we? We are the victims in all of this and are getting no support from the local police which seems to be the thing nowadays.

Time to get out the camera and take photos of the punks throwing things. Then you can take the photos and haul the kids and their parents into court and make them pay for all the damages that have been done.

I have no answer to your question, but I just wanted to say that it's disgraceful that decent citizens have to suffer in this way. What sort of parents are there these days? We'd never have behaved like that, but if we had we'd have been dealt with severely. Pupils can be cheeky to teachers and answer them back and nothing gets done. I wish they would bring the cane back and also wish that parents would discipline their children, irrespective of what the stupid anti-smacking laws dictate.

God bless you! If it that bad of a neighborhood, you could move, but these kids will eventually grow up and they will move on. Until then, keep your homeowners policy paid up. You know, kids don't like to tease if they do not get a reaction out of the person. Maybe the PD has a good idea.

Get some cameras. One at the front and one at the back of your property.

Record this illegal activity and show the police. Then they can go and talk to the parents of these unruly brats. If they continue this behavior they can be sent to juvenile hall.

Do you know who their parents are? The first thing to do would be to try to talk with the parents. If there is damage you could ask them to pay the damage as well.

If you don't know their parents and you want to go the legal route you can set up security cameras and get it on tape as evidence and then press charges with that.
