I had to ask too, my mate kept putting it in texts to me and I was getting kinda worried cuz i thought it meant lots of love!!! It means Laugh out loud to most people. Some others - ty = thank you, tyvm = thank you very much!! lmao = laughing my *** off, theres loads more, but i often find it's more fun to devise your own answers!!

lol means laugh out loud. i think they use it because 1) you have funny questions or 2)their answers were funny or they said something funny
