Can u figure out what this bird is?

Question

I was looking outside early this AM and I saw this amazing bird sitting on a telephone line that crosses a greenbelt that runs along my whole block in the back. It had a rust colored chest and yellow legs with a big hooked beak and the back is bold black and white striped. It may be a kestrel or falcon. It is probably 15 lbs and 22 inches long. I saw it swoop down and grab a small snake and take it up to the wire and swallow it whole. BTW I live in South Texas

I do not live near a lake or large body of water, there are small creeks and railroads and undeveloped areas around here.

It is the Red Shouldered Hawk (but the actual weight appears to be 1-2 lbs.)

Possibly a red shouldered hawk, but the size doesnt seem to be exact. 2(ish) feet and 15 lbs seems a little off considering that a bald eagle weighs no more then 13lbs and grows 30 inches (from beak to tail). Any more details you can offer? Such as rought wing span? Do you live near a water source (lake, river, etc).

WOW! That sounds like some bird!!! Have no idea and I live in south Louisiana but have never seen anything like that! Will be interesting to find out. Will watch this question.
