There is a scientific basis to medicine, much as one can study the science of color. However, when it comes to diagnosing and treating patients, the individual nature of each persons biochemistry and the overlap between symptoms makes the final application much like painting a picture. The individual doctors interpretation of the symptoms and application of treatment may be slightly different from practitioner to practitioner and patient to patient even with the same condition. After all the diagnostics are in (the science), hunches, your gut and an ability to intelligently take risks (the art) all contribute to effective patient treatment.
