look guys,,to make things clear..i am not a fan of italy..i dont hate them or anything..i just dont support them..i dont like the way they play...
i would like you to read my opinion about italy..the right one i think so i could be fair
the problem with the italians will be their abundance of attackers and midfielders..one cant really tell the lineup of the italians until now..the italians are one of the teams who can play spectacular football but can get a bit boring sometimes due to their defensive style...which is the reason i dont like italy...i think it is more exciting to watch people attacking not defending...
but anyways...it is still fun and pleasure to watch the blues play..they are one of the teams where you just stare and wonder

NB: i dont hate any team...if you are a true fan of football you shouldnt hate them because every one has his style....

Good appraisal of your personal views and well done on the team evaluation. You are right. People should support their favorite team, but not hate the others. All have their style, as you said, and there would be no competition without them.

Yes, it was obvious, a long time ago, that you were a devoted fan of the French team. I agree that people should not be hating any teams, as everyone is unique and has their own way of doing things.

Great opinion piece about the Italian team. I think that's what a lot of people think, too... but I guess some like the defensive style and some don't.

They've always been a defensive minded team. They get the lead then shut down for the game on the strength of their defense because, lets face it, they have the best defenders in the world and have always been known for that. So they play to their strengths. The problem is this irritates a lot of Italy's fans. Just recently in this world cup they started to build a more attack-style mentality and look at the result.

You are entitled to have your opinion... like anyone else.
Therefore, I am going to explain to you few things about soccer, even though I am sure that your opinion will remain as such... probably biased by preconceived notions about the game. I hope you are talking with some knowledge about football... that you have watched all the Italian games and from other Teams (during the last World Cup)

If you have some time, go to FIFA official site and check all the official report of each game Italy have played (Shots, Shots on Goal, Fouls, Corner Kicks, etc...): from there you will notice that Italy have played anything but "defensive" game.
You say
"...the problem with the italians will be their abundance of attackers and midfielders..one cant really tell the lineup of the italians until now..."
well, I think you may have some problems on understanding Team's line ups, because Italy's line up have been very clear to all (considering injuries and players unavailability): depending from the opponent, Lippi have played both with 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1, which it is far to consider a "defensive" line up. In the seven games played, Italy had 10 different players who scored and 4 goals were scored by defenders. That is called TEAM WORK, where everyone defends and attacks together. In this matter, France have played 7 games too, but they have scored 9 goals, 3 goals less than Italy. And only 4 players scored for France (2 strikers and 2 midfielders)!!!! Do you see anything interesting in that????

Than you say
"...the italians are one of the teams who can play spectacular football but can get a bit boring sometimes due to their defensive style..."
that is what in english is called oxymoron!!!
And the other oxymoron is on your next sentence "...i think it is more exciting to watch people attacking not defending..."
If there is on team attacking, it implies the other Team is defending, and so on...

If you understand and follow soccer, you should have noticed that Italy have radically changed the way they play since M. Lippi took over Trapattoni: the defensive phase it was important for him, but the real strength of the Italian Team was the attack (and obviously the Team work). Del Piero, Toni, Totti, Gilardino, Iaquinta, Inzaghi (plus Camoranesi and Perrotta) are the Italian offensive line players: do you really think they play "defensive"???
And you should also have noticed something that is the absolute reverse of what you are saying: in the last few years, in Europe many clubs and many National Teams have adopted a very defensive style of play (which was from the Italians before) and they have been successful and winner in many competitions:
- 2005/06 Champions League - Arsenal reached the final, playing defensively the whole tournament (AC Milan on the contrary, reached the semi-finals playing a very offensive soccer).
- 2004/05 Champion League - Liverpool reached the final playing very defensive games in the whole tournament.
- Euro 2004 - Greece won the competition playing very defensively (counter-attack): quarters, semi and final won with 1-0 score.

I can continue on giving you many other details for other countries and clubs, but I think you have already decided that Italy plays "defensive" (of course Italy have great defenders...) and probably you have heard that from your friends or read that in some news... but I suggest you to re-watch the Italian games in the World Cup and maybe you will see the game with your own eyes and little different too.

The defensive style might have been true of Italians teams of the past but under Marcello Lippi they attacked with verve and style and were superb to watch.
A fine example was the Italy v Germany match, in my opinion the best match of the tournament.

You know what? Italia is my team and always will be but I do see your point and I have to admit I do agree to certain extent. Sometimes I too think they play way to defensively. I say get a few goals in first and then play to hold your lead. I think your opinion is plausible and I appreciate your maturity in defending your stance even though I don't agree 100%-maybe 75%.

I would have to agree with you on many points. They are boring to watch at times - most games I really enjoy though. They have opened up the offence at times and have a wide range of strikers and midfielders to choose from, while still being tight defensively. They are a lazy team that typically does only what they have to to win.

This posed quite a problem in the past when they fought for draws it seemed but were horrid in shoot outs. They have since remedied the problems will great success a few months ago. Hopefully Donandoni doesn't squander that pool of talent by ultra conservative play.
