CHARLESTON, S.C. — A City Council member, reacting to a video store holdup believed to have been carried out by children, says parents who can't properly care for their kids should be sterilized.

I love my state.

oh this sort of issue makes my hackles rise. You can all be so pious at times. I was left with two children, one was just walking, my daughter was a baby. I had no money, times were hard, I wasn't even living in the same country I was born in. I didn't know anyone and I had no family close by. People find themselves in situations sometimes not of their own making, so don't make the mistake of thinking if there's no money in the family then the mother is at fault.
And as for 'spaying' women, I feel the word is sterilise, women are not dogs, Also since the operation is more costly and has potentially more complications to it, surely it makes more sense to 'snip' the men?

I seen that article. I think the council member is pretty much right but is wrong in this situation. What kids do when they walk out the door is not the parents fault. The kids were young, we don't know the parents background and just because they were at a store doesn't mean their parents allowed them to "walk the streets". Bout time someone said it out loud though. Have to give 2 thumbs up for that one, it just should be said about these parents out there that are doing harm to their kids. hell my mom taught me values and morals and right and wrong but I still ended up in jail for 32 days and spent 5 yrs on probation. I walked out her door and went along with friends..not her fault by any means.

In my opinion, YES. And I also wish the state(s) would stop giving the children back to the parents.

That happened when my 6 month old nephew was beaten by his mommy's boyfriend. He had been a preemie and at 6 mo., he only weighed 8 lbs. Boyfriend broke baby's ribs.

State of WV gave nephew back to mama. They moved to SC and the boy grew up...we lost contact untill we were informed of his suicide at 18.

I think they should. Why should they be allowed to bring more children into the world that are not going to be loved and cared for? We already have way to many children like that out there.

Any fool ( M/F) can make a baby, but that doesn't mean everybody can be a parent. Hell, you need a license to catch a fish!

The children should be removed. Tho I kind of believe unfit parents should be sterilized, but who are we to judge?

I do. Also, it should be that if they can barely afford to take care of them, they should not be able to have anymore kids. We need to get the people out of shelters and into homes.

yes...i really agree

my sister in law told her 4 year old daughter:

"honey you can't have that ice-pop because it is the last one and mommy wants it"

and she plans on having at least 6 more children...it really shouldn't be allowed!

Yes, men and women both. I've seen too much on yahoo answers where they can't even afford formula for their babies.
