I totally understand your frustration. The reason that we have such a mess is because those who really should be incarcerated have enough money to buy their freedom and the poor folks go to prison. A homeless man stole a package of disposable razors so he could shave to look presentable for a job interview. He left a note with his name and the parking lot where he slept in a cardboard Box was . he apologized and said would come back next day at a specific time to do anything he was ask Clean parking lot, scrub floors ,any thing. When he returned the next day as promised he was arrested and thrown in jail where he remained for several weeks before he had a hearing. when he went to trial he was given 1 year in the state penitentiary. That very same day a man who had beat had wife and son almost to death because she filed for divorce because he was selling and doing drugs got a 30 day suspended sentence. GO figure it happens every day. I guess it is a crime to be poor?

I strongly agree. A psychologist said that rapist, serial killer, and child molesters will never recover from what they do. So why should they be let back out into society to hurt and harm someone else. It all goes back to America has no discipline. The right disciplinary actions are never taken for the crime that these people commit. And there for alot of people in society have to suffer. And I don't think that it's fair that the law allows it to happen.

I think you're confusing corporal punishment with capital punishment. Corporal punishment is physical punishment, usually involving some sort of beating. Over in Singapore, they utilize public caning with a long bamboo pole to punish criminals. This is supposed to be very painful, and Singapore has a very low crime rate.

I do agree that the repeat offending rapists, child molesters, and violent criminals are being handled too mildly. There need to be harsher penalties.

I think it all depends on the scale of the offence- the more serious the crime, the more sever punishment that should be enforced. Murder and child molesting is obviously a severe offence and I believe the offender should get either a death penalty or a life sentence- and never be released early from prison.

Corporal punishment is being beaten for your crimes, capital punishment is being killed for your crimes. Capital punishment is state sanctioned murder - where is the justice in carrying on the killing? Add to this the fact that there is a high amount of miscarriage of justice (i.e. convicting the wrong person) - if they're dead then what happens then? Does the person who executed them get executed himself for effectively murdering an innocent person - and it would be murder, as they weren't guilty.

If you introduce the death penalty for all those crimes then what's to stop the government for introducing it for ALL crimes - even speeding, essentially giving them the right to kill whoever is inconvenient. The death penalty was abolished in Britain because it is barbaric, and it's very easy to convict the wrong person - the last person to be hanged was wrongly convicted for instance.

I'm all for corporal punishment, but these crimes all have degrees of injury. Should a data rape end in execution? A flasher gets the chair? See what I mean? Murder also has its circumstances, so I think we need to think about this very carefully before we commit to something. I would however like to see the appeals process shortened on death row. This 20 years on death row is crap.

Are we asking a question about corporal punishment, which is paddling one's bottom side, or are we referring to capitol punishment, which is paying for your crime with your life?

If you are referring to corporal punishment, my answer is "YES." I believe that it should be brought back to schools. You'd find many less children joining up with gangs and you'd find many more "A" students.

If you are referring to capitol punishment, then my answer is "NO." I am a Christian and my Bible says "Thou shalt not kill." That does not give some state or federal government the right to play "God" and take a person's life, no matter how hanious the crime. The criminals can be locked up for life without the possibility of parole, and made to make small rocks out of big rocks and be fed bread and water until their natural number is called by God.

You are witnessing the Nazification of America.

We used to have corporal punishment at home. I once saw a guy being necklaced for being a police informer...considering that this stuff was done by the ANC I am surprised they didn't continue the old governments criminal policies. These days the crims are sent to goal & they end up being raped by other guys, contractiong HIV-AIDS & dieing there...

Sorry but I wonder if you understand what you're talking about! In the question, you refer to 'corporal punishment' which is punishment of people by beating them! Whereas, in your explanation or additional details, you suggest that those who commit certain heinous crimes as mentioned by you should be killed which is 'capital punishment!' So, please be clear about what exactly you would like to be enforced!

The punishment should fit the crime. Don’t kill those that have not killed, but the murders (first degree, premeditated) should be put to death. Manslaughter; in my opinion; is a different type of crime.
