If getting married cost as much as a divorce did maybe the divorce rate would drop! It would make you think alittle harder about getting married if it cost $1000.00 to get married. Then again if the divorce cost cost what a marriage cost then the divorce rate would jump cause where i live it cost $25.00 to get married. Just a thought to ponder. What do you think?

I think people don't take the time to sincerely think through what they are about to do. They don't take the time to find someone who is truly compatible and live for the moment instead of considering the long term implications. Heck, they spend more time researching and buying a car than they do finding the right life partner.

But your right.... it is way too easy to get married. And divorces are so expensive and hurtful.

Are you talking about the cost of the license? If you are, then the number of divorces would definitely go down because of the lower number of marriages. I don't know if it would affect the rate, though, because at $1k, it seems that only society's wealthier members could afford to marry...and half of those couples might wind up divorcing, which means the rate would be unchanged. Plus, you'd probably see a rise in cohabitation.

People have made a mockery of marriage. Divorce has become too acceptable these days. I am not sure if money is the issue. I believe that men and women do not understand what being married and committed means anymore.

A lot of times the couples don't earn the right to divorce, they just give up too easily and forget the reasons they got married in the first place. Unfortunatly, people are so desensitised these days that its easier to just wash you hands clean and move on. Quite sad, but until people start to see things differently, it's not going to change.

I think maybe the divorce rate wouldnt be so high if it was made more difficult to get one. I think a couple should be made to go through marriage counseling and mediation before they are allowed to divorce. Then, it should cost a fortune. Unless, of course, the situation is abuse.

Actually, I've been divorced and remarried and getting married this time was about $25,000.00 more than the divorce was. I can see your point though. I'm not planning to divorce my current wife ever!
