Well I think that there are still many great guitarists that make new albums and still rock our world: The great Yngwie Malmsteen is still out there making such unbelieable music, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Luca Turili of Rhapsody, Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom, Zakk Wylde, Edguy guitarist, Iron Maiden guitarists....and many more. I agree that there are some artist like that gay one James Blunt who play a few chords and are considered as guitarists. But if you think it a little better thats not the main problem. People do noy listen to good music anymore... Hip Hop, Rap, Trance, and artist as %)cent, Paris Hilton, Pussycat Dolls, make music go lower and lower... If good real Rock and Metal returns then we ll see amazing things by Bands and Guitarists...I 'm sure..

You need to look beyond the LCD (lowest common denominator). Guitar virtuosity is making a comeback.
You may, for now, just have to look harder to find it.
Dragonforce is doing some brilliant stuff. Trivium has some great guitar work, unfortunately their vocals are mostly unintelligible screaming. Dream Theater and Dweezil Zappa are putting stuff out there.
Angus Clark warrants a nod. Toured with the western company of TSO last year. Trans-Siberian Orchestra; if you attend no other shows, catch these guys during their winter tour. East or West doesn't matter, you'll be treated to a show that features guitarists that are masters of the craft. "the Lost Christmas Eve" and "Beethoven's Last Night" would be good Cd's to start with. Soon to be completed "Night Castle" should be spectacular.

It depends what generation you're from because if you're from the 70s or the 80s then you know your music from back then and now this generation's music is different then back then so you are going to judge it because in your opinion the music you grew up with is the music you love and it's better then the newer music. But see people from this generation would say the complete opposite, well depending on who you ask, there are people from this generation who's parents grew up with that music and has taught them to like that music and so they enjoy that music but also newer music, like me, I love 70s and 80s music but I also enjoy the newer music.

not all music has to have great guitar players. most of the more popular bands do, but they focus more on the lyrics than the instruments.todays generation is big on the lyrics of a song - especially if its "emo".
