I want to send a letter to someone but don't want them to know where it originated. Does anyone know if this is feasible?

Yes, it is possible. Send it to a post office in a small town and ask for the "circular date stamp," and they will cancel it and send it on. I do this for mail where I want a specific post office name - for example, I sent some letters with flower stamps from Rose, NY once. Send the outer envelope to "Postmaster" at the city and state, and enclose two envelopes: the one you are actually mailing and one addressed to you - that way you will know that the person at the post office complied with your request.

Another way to do the same thing is to send the envelope to a post office that has a special philatelic cancel - you can find a current list at http://www.usps.com/cpim/ftp/bulletin/2006/pb22190.pdf - the postmark listings start on p 80, and you can send for any postmark that is less than 30 days old.

It is illegal to send any kind of threat through the mail, and I believe postmasters are allowed to send any envelope that looks like it might be suspicious to postal inspectors to be checked. Don't use the mails for any illegal purpose, as it is a federal offence.

Yes, go the post office and I believe that the agent can attach a non-descript postmark on the envelope.

No. You would either have to drive to another town or mail it to someone you know who will send it on from somewhere else.

No, you must put a return address on the envelope or it will not be delivered.
