I m using a P4 with 512 MB RAM. I even have recently changed the power supply. There is hopefully no virus as I am using PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 with virus definitions updated everyday! Pls help this thing is really annoying. I have a feeling that th problem could be in the RAM but am not sure how I can solve this. The system restarts irregularly. Sometimes in a few minutes on start and sometimes after hours. The frequency is increasing as days go by.

Is sounds like something in the hardware (physical parts of the computer), NOT the software (viruses, etc.)

It *may* be a temperature thing. is your chip fan spinning? Get SpeedFan, which is a 100% free Temperature monitoring program, at http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php (click on Speedfan 4.29 in the 2nd paragraph to download, but you can read about it first)

Also, check the "Event Viewer" by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer. It will open up Windows' Event Viewer and you can check in System or Application to see if anything malfunctioned (indicated by a red X) right before your last restart.

Hope this helps!

I have more that what you have but still had the same problem you currently have. We had to go program to program file to file to find our what the problem was. a worm virus. the way its sounds you are ready to crash. then it would be no good to you at all. I would take it to a computer service tech which we did. There was no other way we had this Twice already. I suggest after this have a double firewall put in with your security attachments. these bugs are coming in vertually undetected and are getting smarter.
sorry I couldnt do any more for you.

It could just be updates that are being installed to the computer as sometimes these require a restart of the computer to work. You could try looking in the event viewer to see whats going on

Probably there might be a short circuit.
See that there is no dirt or other articles in the cabinet.
Remove cabinet fan connection.
If this doesnt work then Disconnect other not important devices like CD drive, floppy drive etc.
Hope this helps
