every time i shut down my comp. all the way i get the message
can't find os. so I go into setup (cmos) and my ata drive is set as the boot drive I switch them and save to cmos then it boots ok
(actually kinda slow) and goes right into windows. I can restart ok but not shut-down otherwise i have to go back into the setup screen everytime. (also another prob is the fresh formatted C-drive MFD keeps getting fragmented it's in 7 parts with 80% of the drive free after 2 wks.) please help if u can Thanks.

Your battery on the motherboard may be dead, preventing your cmos settings from being saved.

Fragmentation is a way of life with Windows. 7 pieces is not bad.

sounds like ur BIOS/CMOS isnt holding the settings you are giving it. U can try a new battery for your BIOS - The BIOS is the thing that locates ur hardware, finds the windows kernel and loads... so its worth a try - and its not expensive. :)

If your wondering that when u restart it doesnt happen - most probably when you restart the BIOS doesnt completely lose power - thus doesnt lose its settings.

The battery on your motherboard is probably empty. Replace it, then the BIOS should retain its settings again.
This won't help the fragmenting of the harddrive, however. See if there are any programs running in the background that write a lot of files when your computer is on.
