For my wedding my parents gave me lots of jewellery almost worth a million. The problem is my mother-in-law wants to keep them...she don't want them, but wants their custody. I don't feel like giving it to her. My hubby keeps mum abt this, saying he can't take any sides. He belongs to a tamil family, but I'm not. They r saying that this is a tamil tradition, that the mother-in-keeps the gold.

Is thr any tamil guys over there, who can really tell me abt this "tradition" ?? Pls help me.

Can somebody pls help me ??

I'm not Tamil, but I can spot a golddigger. Your mother-in-law is trying to get her grubby little hands on a treasure, and your "momma's boy" husband is of no help to you.

I sure hope this wasn't one of those asinine "arranged marriages" - that's yet another tradition that needs to end.....

this sounds like a cultural thing.

I'd consult YOUR parents and tell them the situation. This sounds like a cultural thing that they may know more of. Was there a deal before the wedding saying that your mother-in-law would get all the jewelry?? I really doubt this is the case and I think your new mother in law is trying to rip you off. From what I've been reading Tamil weddings are fairly simplistic in nature. No mention about dowries or anything like that.

your husband needs to grow a pair of balls and take a stand either with his new wife or with his mom. He need to tell his mom to btfo (back the f*** off) and let you decide. Not very impressive way to start a marriage if I may say.

If your parents gave you alot of jewelry then maybe your inlaws saw this and think your family is loaded and wants in on it.

TALK TO YOUR PARENTS ABOUT IT!!!

question (I know, it's irritating to be answered by a question) - did you know your husband before the marriage?
What has your family to say in this regard?
why hasn't be discussed beforehand?

Maybe this is a cultural issue, but I'd suggest you talking to your husband and see what HE does want you to do, and if he's got the guts to stand by his wife.
