He's currently polling at around 9%. I'm looking for the specific scenario where he wins, not just a "yes" answer from Kinky supporters.

Even though he doesn't have the big-budget to advertise, he has a very strong following, especially with the younger voters, and people who pay attention to what's going on. I think that people are waking up and realizing that a lot of politicians are not honest, and that our state government is in dire need of a wake up call.

The latest poll that I saw had him at 23%, which was something like 12 points behind the incumbent, Rick "The Bush Clone" Perry. Granted, Kinky is a long-shot, but they said the same thing about Jesse "The Body" Ventura in Minnesota a few years ago and you saw what happened there. Kinky has a great deal of support among the voters who never get polled and on college and university campuses. He may not win, but I'd be willing to bet that he surprises a lot of people with how well he does - and there's always the possibility of an upset.

KINKY IN '06 - WHY THE HELL NOT?

I think if the media actually covered him as much as they do the major parties, and people realized that he's not just a circus sideshow, he'd blow his opposition away.

As I've said before, the voters largely decide what the media wants them to decide, and the media can keep Texas from deciding on Kinky Friedman by ignoring him totally.

Sure. California sent Sonny Bono and Tom Hayden to congress, didn't they?
