Yes. It's not necessarily an addiction. I get headaches a lot, so if I have something really important going on that day, I'll start off my morning with some Excedrin or some Imitrex. It's not like I crave them, but I just want to be able to not worry about getting a migraine.

There is a big difference between wanting to avoid pain and being addicted. Now if you are experience pain because of withdrawl, maybe you do have a problem.

NO! I want my pain medication to work when I need it to.

The only time I have done this is when I was having dressing changes by a home health nurse that were very painful. I had to pre-medicate so that I didn't scream when she removed the old dressing.

Even if someone is addicted to meds, when they have an ongoing problem that needs pain management, they need to stay ahead of the pain. When you get behind it, it's a real b**** to catch up again.

To those who just take the pills for kicks, please get some help. One day you may need them for something more than a buzz, and they won't be enough for you.

I have migraines. When they are going to hit me, I can usually tell before they come on. If I wake up with the signs, I will take an advil (prescription strength) when I wake up. If I don't stop the migraines before they start, I usually can't stop them until they've run their course.

My husband was in a bad accident almost a year ago. He can feel when he's going to have a bad day when he wakes up. If he feels like he's going to have a bad day and it's a work day, he'll take an advil (prescription strength) before going in to work. He hates taking medication at all, but he hates the pain even more. It's better for him, just as it is with me, if the pain stops before it starts.

Neither of us take anything stronger than the prescription advil for our pain.
