Get a ventilation repair company look at it and find the dead mouse (or whatever). It will lessen, but you won't get rid of the smell completely without getting rid of the source.

I think you should call an exterminator or duct cleaner and have the dead animal removed. You can't spend all day spraying lysol around the house. Fix the problem, not the symptom.

I hope you'll follow the advice to get someone to open the ductwork and clean out whatever is causing the problem.
If it IS a dead animal, you're exposing yourself to decaying material and bacteria. You could end up with health problems down the road that could be traced back to this ... thing.
If it isn't a dead animal, then you're going to want to know what IS causing the smell.
Either way, check with your homeowner's insurance to see if any portion of the cleanup is covered.
Good Luck!

You need to hire someone to get the animal (or person's) body out from under your house. That is nasty! Use some Lysol or something.

Oh yuck, it is probably a dead rat, I don't believe there is anything that you can get that we neutralize the odor. Sense you can't get to it, I would try to pin point the location and pour bleach in the area if you can get it in there. that will help for a little while until it decomposes. You can also try to get it out by taking off the register and fishing it out with a coat hanger.

That happened to one of my friends. Eventually after a few months the smell goes away. You might want to buy a big quantity of air freshener, though. You could pore baking soda down the vent, though.

Look around the vet to see if you can find it. Otherwise don't run the air until it has time to decompose and mummify.

you might be able to deodorize for awhile, but the only way to solve the problem, for good, is to get the animal out.
