We have a 350 rocket sitting in a 1982 grand prix. We are thinking of pulling the motor and tranny and putting in a 1967 impala. Would this work and how good would gas mileage be?

If the Impala has an engine, stay with that one. Rebuild it. There are millions of products designed to improve performance and/or MPG you can install on a Chevy engine and almost NONE by comparison for the Pontiac engine.

Also, the Impala will be worth lots more with the original eng.

I don't think the motor mounts would line up as Olds and Chevy engines are different. You may also need a custom length driveline as the tranny is most likely longer than the stock impala tranny. I would think gas mileage would be around 15-18 mpg with that heavy of a car... as long as the 350 is stock with a 2bbl carb and you don't romp on it. If you drive it hard, it will probably only get 10-12mpg. I would recommend getting a Chevy 350 as it would be easier and cheaper to get upgrade parts.

Interesting.Your transplanting the 350 Rocket AGAIN?
The "Rocket" designation is traditionally an Olds.
So you've got an Olds engine in a Poncho, that's going into a Chevy.
Olds and Pontiac engines are nice, but your chevy engine will have tons of easily available parts for rebuilding / replacement.
