I don't think it could be vasco degama because there were arab trades before he came to goa.

Discovered is an odd word, as in nearly all 'discoveries' people already lived there- so rather than discover it is more opening up a country , usually to the european trade links.

however i think the answer you are looking for is--

discovery is not a suitable word for India as people already lived there before Christ. Indus valley civilization and harrapan civilization can give you a good information to you.
though if you mean that how western countries know about India, then it was Vasco De Gama who came first from west particularly from Portugal to India.
