My Aunt told me there was a theory that the smallest things that make up something are called 'strings'.What does this mean?

You see, in theoretical physics Einstein's relativity and Quantum physics have rarely seen eye to eye on phenomena like gravitation.
String theory is a proposition for a unified theory of physics, i.e. the theory of everything. It is sometimes regarded as a core of the ongoing development of an even grander(supposedly)
M-theory.
We consider the make up of matter(and even energy by Einstein's equation) as a collection of zero-dimensional points (particles) conventionally. In string theory however it is said that the continuum is made up of single dimensional 'strings' that are very small in size and vibrating at specific frequencies.
The theory implies the existence of ten or eleven dimensions and if it holds can successfully explain gravity on a quantum scale.

I think the strings theory has some thing to do with black holes.
It's suppoesd to be that anything that goes into a black hole turns into super strings.
