As most of you know, last year Corporate America heavily fought Christmas. Holiday trees, Holiday lights, Happy Holidays. Schools around the nation have been phasing out holiday celebrations (Christmas, Valentine's day, Halloween, etc.) for a few years now. My question is: Who's behind it? What group of people are we trying not to offend?

What I don't understand is WHY this should be offensive to anyone. Someone goes into a Wal-Mart and buys Christmas decorations. Someone nearby (watching) doesn't celebrate Christmas. So what? Why should they be offended? If I see someone buying a menorah, I don't get offended. How ridiculous.

In all honesty, I don't think most the people who we're "trying not to offend" really give a poo in the first place. The people who push this are people who don't understand what is offensive and what isn't. The way to avoid offending people is NOT by ignoring holidays and pretending they don't exist. It's by being able to understand one another and have a respectable dialogue.

I find this similar to the forced way in which people who are never around black people always say "African-American" in this very self-concious way. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have spent lots of time around lots of black people. My boyfriend of a year is too. And I can tell you, they NEVER say "African-American." And when people do, it's almost the same as hanging a big sign on your forehead that says "Hi, I have never been around black people and I don't want to offend anyone." It's all so FORCED, and thus... meaningless.

It's somewhat the same idea to try to force people to say HOLIDAY tree and HOLIDAY lights. It's not natural, and it sounds forced... and overly self-concious. I think instead, we should just concentrate on being good human beings.

If we truly want to respect people of other cultures and religions, we should ACKNOWLEDGE and respect theirs... not try to erase our own.

Now that's a whopper of a question. I'm thinking that, in trying to be soooo very liberal and tolerant, that we're becoming intolerant and stunted.

We have freedom OF religion in this country. Not freedom FROM it. It seems that we must be tolerant of all religions other than the one our country was founded upon and frankly, it makes me crazy mad.

Who's behind it? The Democrats.
Who're we trying to not offend? Anyone who doesn't believe in God, which is about 8% of the country.
