There are many theories on why ships abd planes disappear in the Bermuda Triangle. The theory I like the best is that of methane gas bubbling up from the ocean floor. If enough bubbles surface below a ship, it loses its bouancy, and will sink. If the methane is released into the air, it not only effects the combustion in plane engines, but it is less dense, and can cause problems with lift (necessaey for planes to fly).

The frequency of plane crashes, or lost planes in the Bermuda Triangle is the same as it is on land that carry the same level of traffic. The Bermuda Islands is so close to the US that more inexperienced pilots or boat captains are willing to make the trip. The weather can change very rapidly in that area and catch the inexperienced off guard and they are not experienced enough to deal with it.
It does make for a good story and the myth of the Bermuda Triangle seems to out shine the data supporting any supernatural forces.

its myth and legend - just because that part of the world has statistically experienced more than average occurrences per surface area it appears to be a hot spot but its just down to geography - if the stats were different it could be the Irish triangle or even worse the Australian triangle !!!

People continue to hypothesize on the causes of this -- most likely its an area where alot of people travel, maybe could have some odd weather phenomina, which has caused the incidents.
Unpredictable weather is most likely the cause.
