more then likely the metal piece on the end is getting hung on some thing. Unplug you comp. Take a butter knife and insert it into the drive ontop of the floppy and see if anything is caught. Then do the same under the floppy. Hopefully this will get it unstuck.

No one uses floppies now really - what do you use them for? But you can remove the drive easy. It just slides out and they're cheap - so take it apart to get the disk out. If it's completly dead it could have a corrupt driver. If you're using XP right click my computer, properties, hardware, device drivers, find floppy drive and click the plus sign and see what it says - should say device is working. It should allow you to reinstall the driver. But the disk is probably just jammed. Take a look at Maplin and put a CD/DVD rewriter in! They aren't too expensive. Email me if you have a novel use for floppy disks. I still have a driveon my desktop and 200 blank HD disks - would be good if I could find a use for them! lol My email is at the bottom of the page on my website. Take a good look around.

Take it apart yourself. I'm sure you'll be surprised just how simple it is.
As others have already stated, if you take it to a shop to have it done, you'll be paying far more than the device is worth.
Go on, give it a go! Don't, whatever you do, forcibly remove the floppy disk. The chances are that you'll seriously damage the read heads, or, at least, misalign them.
