It would be ridicolous - if this story was true. As was reported in Private Eye issue 1154 -

"For the record, the charity Parents and Children Together, which runs the two play groups at the centre of last week's outbreak, told the Press Association that "chldren at the two family centres sing a variety of descriptive words in the nursery rhyme to turn the song into an action rhyme. They sing happy, sad, bouncing, hopping, pink, blue, black and white sheep etc. This encourages the children to expand their vocabulary.
"Curiously, this explanation went unreported by any of the national newspapers."
The statement made by the charity was ignored by the tabloid newspapers that had reported this false story.

The 'rainbow sheep' story has been a recurring story since about 1986, turning up in various forms over the years. In short, like most 'political correctness gone mad' stories, this is little more than an urban myth.

a lot of nursery rhymes are references to historical events, e.g. humpty dumpty. I've heard that Ba ba black sheep is not about a little black sheep. its apparently about slavery "yes sir, yes sir...one for the master" etc. the black sheep is a metaphor for a black slave. If this is true then yes it is wrong. again if it is true then it should be explained to people the reason why it is prohibited. It could also be used to educate small children of this period of time and its effects. As for black board, well that seems ridiculous as it is a board that is black!

Yup. Make them PC before they can even spell it.

Our school does not sing any Christian inspired Christmas Carols. Just some blah, non inspired winter season drivel.

Oh. And do not have your H.S. football team named after something American Indian inspired: No Redskins or Chiefs or something like that, might hurt someone's feelings.

That is why you never see Disney's classic "Song of the South", because it shows life as it was in the deep south with the old black man ("uncle" Remus), B'rer Rabbit and the "tar baby".

The PC brigade are making us all a laughing stock. The black and Asian people I know had no problem with this old rhyme. It seems that the only ones bothered are the loony whites that want to control all of our lives. There are so many other things that have gone the same way.

Yeah it is getting ridiculous, especially when certain area's arent allowed to put up xmas decorations as they have a high ethnic population.

I don't complain when the streets are filled with Diwalli / ramadam celebrations so why should it be such a problem the other way around - after all, this is the UK.

yep, they are sad, just reason to cause argument i think. My little sister, she's four, and sings 'rainbow sheep' which is stupid because there's no such thing as a rainbow sheep. I agree with you ;) We even have to call the white board 'pen board'. !?!!

I think it is ridiculous - why change an age old song just to be politically correct (how messed up are our kids going to be). I have many multi national friends who think it is extremely amusing how badly politically correct britain is trying to become. Some even say it was better when we didn't try so hard!
