How can you dig half a hole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must admit, i nearly put down 2 hours though.

It really depends upon alot of different factors...
Well you didn't specify how many arms each man had, wethere they had better things to do than dig a hole, or if they were able to do a tag team wtih another two men, thus cutting down the levels of faigue.
Also the one man on his own, could be dead, or maybe he's a weight lifter. You also forgot to specify what they are digging their hole with, if the first two used a shovel, what did the single man use, cause if he used a jcb for instance then alot less time.
Plus you've got to take into account the type of soil that they're digging into, or if it's soil at all??? they could be digging in cement or clay or bedrock, you really can't tell, you need to be more specific!
Also I've never heard of half a hole, but if i ever see one being dug by one man, then I'll let you know!

2 men 8 hours to dig a hole = 16 hours for 1 man to dig the same hole.
If you reduce the size of the hole by half, then your answer is 8 hours for one man to dig the half sized hole.

Really? Did you read the question? If you meant how long will it take 1 man to dig half of what the 2 can then the answer is 2 hours.

8 hours per half hole
if 2 men take 8 hours, one would take twice as long for one hole, 16 hours. Half a hole would be half the time ie 8 hours

It would take 1 man twice as long to dig the same whole which is 16,so it would take that 1 man 1/2 the amount of time to dig just a half a whole,which would be 8(the answer). .It would take him 16 hours to dig the same whole.

You cannot dig half a hole now! you used to be able to, back in the days when they made "Half Shovels". The half shovels were a bit of a non seller, because most people were right footed and they could not sell the left footed half shovels, except for a few here and there! Left "Half shovels" were made exclusively in Ireland. Hence the expression "Left Footers" meaning Catholics.
