Most people who end up at University are from " well off " backgrounds.. and while they may end up having a Brain crammed with loads of Info .. they severely lack " Savvy " and they couldn't make a decent Pot Noddle if they tried... I haven't been to University - but most people assume I have ..because I worked hard done a lot of shitty jobs, and listened & learned.. - I employ so called Wonder Graduates at my company..( for the Govenment grants of course ) . And most of them are as thick as fthuck ... They have this Smarmyness about them - that makes me want to give them a good shake.. But hey ! I am sure there are Hard working go-getters out there somewhere...

You are not inferior and nor am I (I haven't been to uni or even to grammar school.) If some people who go to uni have this attitude then they are displaying their own insecurities and it is their problem, not yours or mine. Uni is a place where people should go to obtain a higher level of information/education but this does not in anyway suggest that they are more intelligent. Some people I know who have been to uni are the biggest idiots I have ever had the misfortune to meet! Some students make the most of this opportunity but others who are equally intelligent make their way in life through more effective ways, eg. get training on the job. If you don't need a degree to do the job you want, why waste 3 years on unnecessary learning and building up a considerable debt (does that sound clever?) when you could be gaining valuable experience and appropriate knowledge and qualifications while getting paid!

No, people who go to uni should, and in the main do, appreciate that there are many different ways to achieve life satisfaction. There are as many different ways to be successful as there are people. So celebrate YOUR achievements.

If you feel an overwhelming urge to study at uni, then I thoroughly recommend the Open University - you will meet people who really want to get a higher education, be it for work or personal desire. The great thing is, employers really value OU degrees because the student has shown that not only are they capable of reaching the standard but also demonstrated that they can organise their time effectively and have shown committment.

Good luck with whatever you do!

Not necessarily. Some idiotic people get into uni, some superb brains don't make it at age18 if they learn the uni entrance exam stuff too late or don't get the opportunity. It's the education and development of uni years that count and produce superiority (in the things learned) not the basic material of the person. Uni education will very probably not mean the graduate will "look down on" non-uni folks, quite the reverse. In UK and other parts of the world you could enquire into the opportunities available in the Open University if you feel you've missed out so far.
Go on then!

There is another way to put this question.
Do people who have not been to university feel superior?

No of course we don't after leaving school at 14 and working very hard. I once had to lecture to over a hundred graduate applicants who wanted to join my company.
Next I had to sit on a panel with Industrial Relations and sort the wheat from the chaff before interviewing the successful ones to find a job to suit them.
My secret moment of pride came when one remarked he wish he had my experience, and this was weeks after he started.
I just smiled.
I still wonder how he would have felt if he knew I left school at 14 to work in an engineering factory?
I am proud of my 14 years working with my hands while studying at night school for some of that time.
Practical mixed with theory makes anyone unassailable.

In fact big headed sometimes!
I can't say superior can I?

I went to university, I have 2 batchelors degrees and a masters degree.

I don't think it makes me better than someone else, but I would like to think it has made me a more informed person than I was before I went. I left school at 16 with nothing and worked my way through, going to evening classes instead of the pub every night, then uni.

The people I don't like are those who have not been to uni, for whatever reason but resent those who have.

Anyone can get a degree, it is just a matter of choosing the right subject and hard work.

No, because there is stupidity and intelligence everywhere. Only one quarter of Americans have completed college, so to look down on everyone who hasn't is looking down on the majority of the population.

Going to college does not make one smarter--one's intelligence cannot be increased no matter how hard they try. The only thing one can improve upon is knowledge, and college is just one avenue to obtain knowledge. Many people persue knowledge in other areas and by other means, ie tech school, the military, or hands on experience, etc.

I personally don't believe that those with more education are better than those who didn't have those teachings. Why? Well the truth is that life has lessons for all of us and it is up to us to take those lessons and use them or to get the knowledge we need from books. They say Life is the best teacher and in most cases this is true. I would rather hire somebody who has been doing the job and knows how to do the job than somebody who has never done the job but has read the instructions of how to do it. People who have been to university are not superior than anybody even if people have large egos and believe they are. Nonetheless, who cares about who is better than who? Just use what you have to succeed in life and have fun.

Lack of education does not mean lack of intelligence, just lack of opportunity. I left school at 16 but later on in life got myself some business qualifications studying at home whilst in a full time job. I certainly do not feel inferior to some of my friends and colleagues who have degrees and I don't think they look down on me. Why don't you do a correspondence course through Open University if you think it might help your self-esteem. Lack of a college education does not make you less than anyone else. My mother was sent out to work when she was 14 and she can beat family members with degrees at scrabble every time with her huge vocabulary, so go for it, you might surprise yourself.

There are people who think they are better than others but they most definitely are not. Intelligence is measured by your ability to measure patterns...and that ability is NOT limited to college educated people. Colleges teach "facts" not how to think, you either know how to think or you don't.

However, an education is an asset in our world. I would always encourage people to attain at least some college. And whatever the reason you left school so young, you can get an education. Peace and Good Luck.
