I don't know what all the details are, but even the Republicans seem to be saying it looks very, very bad. I think the age of the boy has a lot to do with it. The fact the Foley resigned immediately also tells me something. However, I doubt that what Foley did is any different than some of the things Barney Frank and others have been merely wrapped on the fingers for doing, and it wouldn't surprise me if the dems saved this until right before the election. If Foley is a pedophile, then good riddance, but I do think that the democrats have a double standard. If it were their guy, they would be protecting him at all cost.
Answerman, the Speaker did not have access to all the e-mails at that time. It is being reported that new, more explicit e-mails are just now coming out, and more will be coming out in the following days--so it isn't fair to say that they "knew" about it in the spring.

Foley should not have been so stupid. He knew the realities of the Republican voter base. He simply chose to satisfy his desires rather than to maintain professional conduct.
A story like this is a death knell for a Republican beacause their voter base being mostly religious and conservative will not tolerate this sort of misbehavior.
There was not only smoke, but fire as evidenced by the fact that he caved so quickly.
I dont think any law was broken, but I bet authorities are working on it.
The information was released by a news organization. Most journalists by their own account are liberal. The release of this was timed for maximum political impact...after the point of no return. It almost insures a Democrat will inherrit that seat. That in my opinion is not a smear campaign, it is just politically prudent. It does however suggest a link between the press and their friends on the left side of the aisle.

Well you see in this country, this is standard practice near election time. That is the only way a Dem CAN win, not by straightforward debate, but by underhanded "planted" news stories. Fiction is fun.
Democrats do just as many things wrong as Repubs.Ted Kennedy?
And you don't have to actually commit a crime, or do anything improper anymore to be railroaded out of a job. Not once the biased "news" reports begin broadcasting with their analysis of what "happened".

Let's see: He resigned immediately when he was confronted with the evidence by a reporter. The house leadership person over pages says he spoke to Foley and warned him to lay off last year. While some of the emails mentioned in the news are not particularly potent--like just asking for a picture, some of the others the press hasn't publicized, depending whether you view the right, middle or left leaning press, is potent--such as instant messaging a page and asking what type of underwear he wears, briefs or boxers, telling what he is wearing, and suggesting to the boy "EMPHASIS ON BOY" to take off his clothes--also one asking "Does that make you horny?".
He may well have broken the law, the problem is that our chief lawmakers, several congressmen, knew about this and did not alert the legal authorities responsible for enforceing the law.
The house leadership has already squashed through a midnight vote the ability of the full house to launch an investigation. IF that is not a coverup, I don't know what is. And you trust these guys to lead your country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Us moderates don't want the left to take over, they never had control ever anyway; we do want to wrestle control from the righteous right who are stealing from the poor and giving it all to the big corporations fueling their campaigns.

I think as with most breaking news it is a wait and see, I doubt the democrats had anything to do with this. The speaker of the house had knowledge of these e-mails in 2005 if the reports are correct and did nothing, that would make it a repuglican cover up. But all in all we will have to wait and see how this plays out.

He has a right to a trial by a jury of his peers. His resignation was intended to allow others to pursue elections more freely. I know that Department of Children services are too eager to file a case many Rights that safeguard our free republic (US) are easily ignored. Many cases have been thrown out due to fraud. A teacher in Knoxville city, TN. USA has filed multiple lawsuits for liable, defamation, and wrongful arrest.

The Democrats aren't organized enough to plant a story like this. If they were they would have run with the Jeff Gannon story 18 months ago, I think this happened.

No, I do not think so.Who knows if charges will ever be filed....not sure what the charge would be or what law has been broken...but the fact remains what he did was very inappropriate....so resigning was his only option.
how would you feel if some man told your son to get naked...and emailed him with these kind of comments?
And from what I understand he was told(not sure by whom) to stay away from this kid......but choose not to.
What...are you now thinking this is a made up?....just to smear him?...GMAB.

If fiction, may be the least entertaining literature I've ever read.
His email address isn't redacted on one of the forwarded email documents posted on-line. Look it up and drop him a line.
Were he innocent of any wrong doing, I don't think he would have jumped ship so fast.
