I'm not sure if 12 hours is long enough, but if you give up food for long enough your suppressed feelings can come to the surface to be dealt with.So long as you don't immerse yourself in watching films or TV to or alcohol to distract yourself. It can be quite a useful technique provided you have the proper help from someone who really knows what they are doing. (to allow you to express your emotions in a safe environment where no-one can get hurt).
