I have heard that alkiline helps rid the body of asidic waste. Does it? Is baking soda alkiline? What other foods are?

Baking soda is basic, but I wouldn't recommend drinking it. It will neutralize stomach acid and make you sick.

Before doing anything like altering my body's pH (which is naturally slightly basic anyway), I would want more information on what these "acidic wastes" are, exactly. The human body has very intricate chemical systems for maintaining proper pH. It's not a good idea to mess with those systems, unless you have a good reason to.

Changing the rate at which you breath will also change the body's pH. A long exhalation phase with a short inhalation phase will expell more CO2 from the body. Since CO2 is stored in the bloodstream as a mild carbonic acid, decreased levels of CO2 lead to a more alkaline blood pH. This can lead to serious problems, though, included muscle spasms and unconsciousness.

Where I live, our tap water comes from the surrounding limestone hills. This water is quite alkaline and 'hard'. I've not heard that it may have health benefits. It just furrs up the kettle and makes it difficult to get a lather from soap.

If you wanted to make some, maybe filtering water through Calcium Carbonate would do the trick.
