First an foremost you must understand you make your money not selling the product but building the business. Yes you need to love the product, but the real money is made in having employees. I take it your rep is part of a direct marketing company, much like Amway, Mary Kay, Avon, the list is endless. And nothing is wrong with this company they bypass the middle man and market direct to the customer.

However, it is very hard making money selling the product, primarily because the you margin is simply not great enough. Ask yourself a very simple question which is easier selling $100 of product your self, or having 100 people selling $1 worth of product. So the key is to sign up people who want to sell the product. How do you find the hold a party. Keys to a good party.

1. Invite double the amount of friends who you can hold, many will not make it.

2. Make sure your home is warm and inviting, do no use a friends home, use your home, and invite your friends.

3. Have some door prizes, like for the first person who arrives, for the last person who arrives. Give out the door prizes after you start.

4. Have some nice finger food, and a cake. Keep the food inexpensive, don't end up making the party cost you.

5. Play some games.

6. Have a mixture of product expensive and inexpensive. Some times those who can afford the least end up selling the product or vice versa.

7. And finally no high pressure keep it fun. Some will buy, some will want to sell.

My wife has held jewelry parties, and she was not the one selling but always had a good crowd and the people enjoyed it.

Just pick a date, time and place you want to have this party. Make a list of all those you would want to invite and get the invitations ready and send them out. Even if only one person comes, it's great learning experience to how you should do a party for your candle business. If they call to find out what it's about and are hesitant to say yes, try to tell them that you would like their support and to please show up just to give you pointers on what you could do better next time. I did that with my mother and ended up selling her a dozen votives and two jars because the product sold itself. Good luck!
