So if I have 6.4 gigabites that would be enough to install something that takes up 1,024 kilobytes?

There's nuthing called "K"

1 byte = 8 bits
1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1024 kb = 1 Megabyte
1024 MB = 1 Gigabyte
1024 GB = 1 Terabyte

Just consider the following:

8 Bits (Binary Digits, either 0 or 1) = 1Byte

1024 Byes = 1 Kb (Kilo Byte)

1024 Kb = 1Mb (Mega Byte)

1024 Mb = 1Gb (Giga Byte)

1024 Gb = 1Tb (Tera Byte)

1024 Tb = 1Pb (Peta Byte)

1024 Pb = 1Eb (Exa Byte)

1024 Eb = 1Zb (Zentta Byte)

1024 Zb = 1 Yb (Yotta Byte)

Just I know the above one... So, check and understand the difference between Kilo byte or Giga byte.

Yes. Sure you can install the application which needs only 1Mb space as you are having 6.4Gb of space...

If you let 700Mb - 1Gb of free space in your disk, that's enough to run most the applications.
