I'm just wondering how low a score can be before most colleges will reject you?

It depends on the college of course, but most schools will want a combined score over 1000. That doesn't mean you can't get in with lower scores, especially if you don't test well, but have good grades and some interesting activities to put on your application.

If you want to receive merit-based financial aid, the scores will need to be higher. I've seen scholarships which listed a minimum score of 1350, but I'm sure there are others that except scores lower than that. For the National Merit program, scores need to be in the 1400's or higher, from what I've observed. (I have two kids who went through the college application process in the last 6 years, and I got to hear about lots of their friends, too!)

If you can afford it, you might want to consider getting help with the college application process. There are lots of people who provide application assistance services. Some of them are outrageously expensive, but others are more reasonable. Both of my kids used these services (one of the reasonable ones!) and it worked out great. Look for someone with a lot of college admission experience and good references.

Well, it always depends on what colleges you are applying to. For instance, if you tried to apply to Harvard with a 2100, that would be a bad score, even though a 2100 would be an outstanding score at many other places. Just make sure you score falls in the middle 50% of scores (in all three areas) at the coleges you are looking at. You can look up the colleges at the College Board Website to figure out what the middle 50% of SAT scores is.

And there's always that ACT.

Isn't the new SAT out of 2400 points? Then 1000 is kind of low...
I would say that a 500 on each of the 3 sections is good....I'm not sure how low is bad though.

Stop worrying about the scores......study for the test and give your best! The more you worry, the more nervous you will get and that might affect your score.

If I were you, you should try above a 1000. No school I know will accept lower.
