whether its your feet, back,underarms etc most people can be tickled but its not something you can do to yourself why?

Unfortunately your brain gate crashes the tickle party..and tells the body exactly when and where the tickle action is going to be at. So when the tickling sensation is administered by yourself..the sensation crew are already there, they know exactly whats going to happen..what to expect..and for how long. A bit like hearing a joke you've herd many times..it's just not funny. However..the reverse is true of someone else tickling you..even if you brain knows whats happening...it doesn't have all the controls.

I think tickling could be a "mental" thing and not related with physical contact at all. Hence the ineffectiveness of trying to self induce the same reaction. Have you ever tried to tickle someone and they have started giggling before any physical contact? Hell some people can become giddy from the anticipation of being tickeled.
I could be wrong.
