Inference is a suggestion or assumption which need not be true. But evidence is proof with necessary facts/data or verification.

When you "see" the evidence you may make (tentative?) inferences as to what it means. you come home and find your rear door broken into. There are muddy boot prints on the porch steps. you may reasonably infer that the house breaker was human. However, it may prove later that it was actually a trained bear wearing human boots. The evidence is hard facts but the inferences are soft facts easily overturned on closer inspection or with further evidence (a witness or independent experimenter?).

Things that are inferred are assumed, do not have direct evidence and are therefore not proven. While evidence is/are the facts that prove a question.

basically inference is what you think might happen, while evidence is based on proof(what you smelled and touched)

inference is basically an educated guess.
evidence is what you saw, heard and smelled.
