The door is out of plumb. If you have a level check the long side of the door and note the direction of the bubble. Adjust the the hinge that needs to be adjusted by removing the screws from the jamb side and adding cardboard behind the hinge, causing the door to move out and becomes plumb.

First, make sure that the hinges are not self-closing! If that's not it, then the door is not plumb, level, or square. Do you own a level? If so, it is easy to fix. Ask a friend that is handy, or land lord if you have one. You know, you could always get a door-stopper! They make some really cute ones!

It's out of level. The door frame is tilted one way or the other and is not vertically square. Short of ripping off the trim molding and re-shimming the door frame, use a brick or a door stop to hold it open.

the door is not plumb. if you are a handy type it would be best to pull the trim off and reshim the door.If you put cardboard behind the hinges you are likely to hingebind the door and it will not close properly.good luck
